YFED: Museum Accessibility – Beyond Lifts and Braille Guides
This webinar will introduce participants to the concept of accessibility as something more than physical adaptations to buildings. Using examples from the JORVIK Group’s museums, we will discuss barriers disabled people may face in heritage and what heritage professionals can do to remove these barriers. With a focus on simple, inexpensive solutions, participants will be invited to consider their own sites from a new perspective and discuss potential barriers as a group.
Facilitator: Ashley Fisher.
Ashley is a PhD candidate at the University of York Archaeology Department. Her research focuses on accessibility for people with hidden disabilities in museums and heritage sites. She also works as a staff member and accessibility specialist for the JORVIK Group in York, particularly at DIG: An Archaeological Adventure, where she works to increase accessibility and disability awareness amongst staff and members of the public alike.
