West Yorkshire Museum Forum at University of Leeds, The Treasures of Brotherton Gallery

It was great to meet so many of you at our forums in February and March, and to engage in such lively discussions and inspiring museum visits. We have all felt the benefit of meeting in person, getting out to different places – and connecting with colleagues over a hot drink and delicious bite of lunch!

Our aim for museum forums in 2023 is to create “a professional day out” – a chance to catch up with your museum colleagues in the region, visit an interesting venue, get the most out of being at a site, hear some interesting case studies – and really to enjoy being out in a different museum with different colleagues!

The theme of this forum is funding and partnership opportunities:

10am Arrival and Refreshments

10.30am Welcome with Alan Bentley Museum Development Officer, Museum Development update and news

10.45am Carla Marshall, the Trust Manager of the Sir George Martin Trust, which gives grants to registered charities across West Yorkshire, and the Coordinator of Yorkshire Funders will provide insights on what the Trust is currently interested in funding as well as giving an overview on the development of Yorkshire Funders and some of its current initiatives.

11.15am Gin Jacobucci, Engagement Manager will update you on opportunities from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

11.45am Presentation and Tour of the Treasures of the Brotherton Gallery and Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery.

12.30pm Lunch – a delicious, complimentary lunch is provided.

1.30pm Sharing Updates

2.00pm Heather Lane, Honorary Curator, Museum of North Craven Life will speak about fundraising for museums and heritage buildings, using The Folly in Settle as a case study.

2.20pm Katharine Boardman, Relationship Manager, Museums will update you on opportunities from the Arts Council.

2.50pm Erica Ramsay, Project Manager, Cultural Institute, University of Leeds will speak about research based and student opportunities for museums working in partnership with higher education.
