Elevenses – Tuesday 21st March 2023
Family Friendly Museums Awards
Nominations for the Kids in Museums Family Friendly Museum Awards 2023 open on 21 March. We will be joined by the Director of Kids in Museums Alison Bowyer to tell us more about the awards. We are fortunate to have two Yorkshire winners in 2022. Matt Wakefield of the National Emergency Services Museum and Ally Beckett of Experience Barnsley will be discussing their experience of the process. Experience Barnsley won the Best Accessible Museum, and The National Emergency Services Museum won the best Small Museum and was the Overall Winner.
Each year Kids in Museums award the prize to one museum, gallery, historic home or heritage site that has made outstanding efforts to welcome children and families and respond to their feedback. Nominations can be made by anyone, or museums can apply themselves.
Experience Barnsley was rated highly for its Makaton signage, sensory backpacks, accessible and Changing Places toilets, sensory toys in the shop and the inclusive range of books available in the galleries, and Ally will tell us more about their commitment to accessibility.
The National Emergency Services Museum was recognised for its outstanding local community work, hands-on galleries, and welcoming staff.
Insightful, interactive and informal, come along to gain new insights from our guests, meet colleagues from the region, and connect with the MDY team. Everyone who works and volunteers in museums in our region is most welcome, including museum freelancers who want to stay connected.
