Elevenses – Thursday 18th May
Recruiting and Engaging Volunteers
We are all aware of how the workplace has changed over the past couple of years, the impact this has made on recruiting and engaging volunteers and the need to be more flexible in our approach. We are pleased to be joined by Matt Hick, Head of Volunteering at Science Museum Group (SMG) and founder of the Heritage Volunteering Group (HVG) and Catrin Catrin Podgorki, Project and Volunteer Manager at VocalEyes to discuss new opportunities for engaging volunteers.
Matt has worked in Volunteer Management for 15 years. As Volunteer Coordinator, Matt transformed volunteering at the National Railway Museum before taking on his current role, where he’s responsible for the strategic development of volunteering across SMG. Matt will explore how, by taking a different approach to volunteer recruitment, you can deliver volunteer involving activities that not only meet your organisation’s operational needs but which can help transform lives and communities.
Catrin is Project and Volunteer Engagement Manager at VocalEyes and the winner of the Heritage Volunteering Group Volunteer Leader of The Year 2022. Catrin demonstrated excellence in her approach to working with remote volunteer researchers with personal experience of access barriers. This led to the publication of a major report Heritage Access 2022 – VocalEyes into the experiences, barriers and access provision for D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent museum visitors.
